A crazy light show experience worth checking out!

Reviewed by: Vittorio, 2017/02/20

Going to the Robot Restaurant turned out to be an interesting experience. We booked online and when we got to the place we were greeted by someone who spoke English and sent us to the ticket booth to retrieve our tickets. It was quick and easy to get them and after waiting for about 15 mins at the lounge we proceeded to move inside to the show. Filled with light and upbeat music, the show is definitely something you might want to check out if you're ever in Tokyo. Food and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available inside. The place gets pretty loud and crazy so you might want to leave the kids behind. Most of the seats are ok but if you're unlucky enough to get the corner seats then you might not be able to see everything that's going on. All-in-all a fun night!

Hilarious and over the top

Reviewed by: Tom, 2017/01/30

It's in the sub-sub-basement, so there is a bit of sewers odor
The noise is loud and intense
Some of the robots could use a renewal of some kind.
All that being said, it's hilarious as heck and a crazy and fun 90 minutes
I would'nt go back but I'm sure as hell happy I went

Blue Man Group + Power Rangers = Robot Restaurant

Reviewed by: Daniel Spilatro, 2016/12/28

So much insanity and energy. The show feels like a mix of Blue Man Group's Live show, mixed with power Rangers. There are Drums, There are fireworks, there are character Knock Offs (Mad Max, Mothra, etc...), and there are Robots (sort of...).

Totally worth your time, totally mind melting.

  • Drums

  • Mad Max Knock off!

  • Snake Battle!!

One of those things you have to do!

Way over the top and bright and loud and awesome! Big robots and singing and acting. Just gotta see it once! Veltra has best ticket prices around. So easy to book and to find the place. Our flight was cancelled so lucky i rang and asked them to move it to the next night and the Robot Restaurant did! Phew.. There was a no visible tattoo rule so i wore a scarf to cover my throat tattoo and put makeup on my face tattoo's and wore gloves but it was so hot in there so I asked about the rule but they said its for Yakuza only and foreigners are ok.. So I quickly took all the winter extra's off and it was good after that.. haha.. All the seats get the same good view as its 3 level seating on either side and the show goes up and down the middle, but the seating area is tight and has small seats. But gotta go see it!!

Robot restaurant is amazing.

Reviewed by: Kyle, 2016/12/12

The restaurant is amazing. I loved it. Have a few drinks and enjoy the show. Veltra was the cheapest ticket supplier I could find. But this also comes with drawbacks. US based so don't expect prompt communication. Email reply will take days and if you want to change the booking do it yourself with the restaurant. They are more than happy catering to you. Veltra will not help.

Robot night

Reviewed by: Nigel, 2016/09/27

A great full on show. I also did this 3 years ago. What I noticed this time was the push to buy buy buy stuff during the numerous breaks between acts and also the cross-promo for the robot themed bar and restaurant that now exists on separate premises nearby. You certainly get the impression that they want to extract every yen from you. They should spend some money repairing some of the robots and props which looked a bit worse for wear from the front seat.
However this is an experience not to be had anywhere else so go and see it!

Creative, Dynamic, & Futuristic

Think of it as an electric night parade, Fantasmic style show, sailor moon cosplay, power rangers, and harujuku art! It was lovely and the breaks every 15 min were useful in allowing us to catch up with friends, go to the bathroom, & relax our ears!! It's like letting your inner 5 year old come out to play, imagine, battle, dance, & wonder!

Futuristically Westernized

Reviewed by: Newbie Travelers, 2016/07/01

The show was out of this world and was one of our highlights for our trip to Japan.
It was interesting to see how they can fit all the robots / floats within such a small stage area. There was so little room that they had to remind everyone to stay within their seats to avoid accidents. The show was spoken in english and appeared to be for westerners as the audience was 100% westerners. It would've been nice to watch the show when the audience was predominantly japanese. The show was considerably short since intermission was every 15 minutes. By the end of the show, we probably watched an hour of robot show in total.

Fun moments, Slow Moments, Frustrating moments

Reviewed by: RipperP, 2016/06/20

In it's best moments, it's wacky, fun, colorful, loud, and nothing like I've ever seen. At it's worst, it's a contrived tourist trap and feels like they're trying to milk everyone who walked through the door for every last dime. Everyone who shows up prior to the show goes upstairs to a room with insufficient seating, a musician playing solo, and drinks and snacks overpriced to a degree I have not seen anywhere else in Japan (300 yen for a bottle of water, 500 yen for a soda). Then everyone heads down 4 or 5 flights of very colorful stairs to the basement, and packs into rows of seats. I did not opt for any of the food except popcorn, which was OK. The show consists of a few unrelated acts, each with its own vapid theme of intense multi-sensory stimulation, and separated by long (hot) breaks where they are hocking overpriced drinks and snacks. My 65-year old father, who is usually up for anything, was totally unamused and actually fell asleep during the madness. My 9 and 11-year-old nephews said it was a "7 out of 10." If I could go back in time, I would advise myself to skip it and spend more time in Odaiba or one of the theme cafes, or just walking around one of the many great neighborhoods in Tokyo. Skip it, unless you really like this colorful, weird, loud, cheesy Japanese sort of thing and don't mind doing an unabashed foreign tourist activity (zero Japanese people were in attendance).

  • It's difficult to find any spots that aren't colorful and shiny.

The audience is almost entirely tourists, so we felt a bit iffy prior to going in. But as soon as the show started I knew this is going to be the best night after our 2 weeks in Japan. I'm not even sure how to describe it, but the show is insanely amazing. Super high energy and one of the craziestly awesome things I've ever seen! The caramel popcorn is also super tasty.

Amusing

Reviewed by: Squirrel Girl, 2016/05/11

This was my second time attending a show at Robot Restaurant since both times have been with people who were visiting me here in Japan. I do not know whether it is because they change the content periodically or because it was an afternoon show this time, but the outfits were less revealing than the first time I went. It also seemed to take longer between each segment. Nevertheless, it is a fun thing to do if you are looking for something a bit unusual. It is definitely aimed at tourists, and most of the attendees are foreigners. This particular deal did not include a meal, but they have snacks available there as well as boxed meals if there are any left over. The "Restaurant" part of the name is actually a bit misleading since it is really about the show. Lots of lights, crazy costumes, and energetic dancers, so I recommend it if that is the kind of thing you enjoy.

Psychedelic experience

Reviewed by: Linda, 2016/04/03

I'm a harsh critic. Lots of tourists. Take it or leave it. It is at times cheesy but the robots were pretty cool if you're into that type of stuff. It's probably better for families with kids than for grown adults. I paid about $45 a person for just the show and I probably wouldn't pay any more than that. It's 2.5 hours of crazy lights and robots.
