This dramatic red castle topped with fanciful dragons was once the very heart of the Ryukyu Kingdom and was chosen in 2002 to be the 11th World Heritage Site in Japan. Much brighter than Japanese castles, here you can get a real taste for the Chinese-influenced Ryukyu style. After entering through the elegant Shureimon Gate (and taking a picture!) you can move through the fortifications up to the palace. The castle's hilltop location will allow you to get great views over Naha from the top!
