Perhaps one of the most photographed shrines in Japan, Fushimi Inari is most famous for Senbon Torii, the thousand vermillion torii gates that form a hiking trail within the shrine grounds. Fushimi Inari is also the head of all shrines throughout Japan dedicated to the rice god, Inari. According to myth, foxes serve as Inari's messengers, which is also why fox statues and figurines can be found in the shrine.
