This is an easy way to see both castles in one day. Perfect for those whose time in Munich is limited or for those who would like a hassle-free experience.

Highly recommended!

The castles and their grounds and surroundings are beautiful, especially set against a brilliant blue sky contrasting with the glistening white underfoot.

Buses do not run up to Neuschwanstein castle during the winter season but it is possible to take a horse & cart shuttle to quite near the castle. There were 5 running on December 20th 2013. Each holds about 11 people and the driver. The queue time was at least 30 minutes for us so this in mind in terms of not missing your timed castle tour.

Oberammergau is very picturesque and was a nice stop.

The guide, Gerta, was efficient, helpful and extremely warm. I heard her giving all kinds of travel and local advice to various passengers. Steffan, the driver, was also very helpful.

It seems like a very long day but the longest unbroken journey we had was the 1.5 hours leg back to Munich.

The entire group of people who booked this trip the day we went filled 3 double decker coaches. Each coach, however, had its own guide and did the tour independently of the others. The coach was very clean, cosy and comfortable and had a WC along with cola, water and beer for sale on board.

Do not be put off by the fact that there may be lots of tourists here. It is an absolute 'must see' if you are anywhere nearby. Take the pony and carriage ride up the hill for amusement value or if you are infirm. We bought coffee and cake from the cafe right by the pick -up point for the pony rides. IThe ride cost 6 euros per person one way. Our tour guide, Monika, was excellent and very knowledgable, but not over burdening us with information either. The guide at Linderhof was superb. Be prepared to be moved through both buildings quite quickly. This is becasue they have such a vast number of visitors each day. If you linger, you will lose your signal for your audio tour. We were lucky with the weather and it snowed while we were there. The views are just stunning, but bring good shoes if you plan to walk up and down the hill to Neuschwanstein. It is possible to visit under your own steam, but doing a guided tour took away a lot of the angst and made for a very trouble-free trip. We had timed tickets for Neuschwanstein. There s a bit of time for shopping in the visitor centres at both Neuschwanstein and Linderhof and the stop-over at Oberammergau allows time for a quick browse in the local shops. The one recommended by our guide was a bit naff, so we visited Kathe Wohlfahrt (the centre of all Christmas kitsch) but also a good source of genuine German products.Would thoroughly recommend this tour.

The time we spent in both castles was to short. We got only very limited impressions, could not enjoy the beauty of these places.

This was the best part of our visit to Munich. This tour lasts the entire day and takes you to 2 different palaces plus a small village for souvenir shopping.

You have a choice of tour busses depending upon what language you want to hear spoken by the tour guide. The tour guide was very informative and funny. The tour itself is very well organized and includes a short stop for lunch.

The cost for entrance to the palaces at the time was 21 Euro. The cost for lunch was not included so be prepared to spend at least 15 Euro per person. The souvenir shop does have better prices than you'd find in the city plus the products are made in Germany.

We plan on using City Discovery the next time we visit Munich and visit other palaces.

FANTASTIC TRIP!!
Our tour guide JOSEF was really an expert in history and told us really interesting facts and curiosities about the castles and important aspects of the city and places we visited.
The only thing to improve would be a little more time to in the places we stopped.

Really enjoyed the tour. The guide was very informative and the driver got us there and back in a very comfortable bus in one peice. We have been advised that Linderhof is best to be visited during summer month, simply because you get to see the fountains( which are boarded up during the winter) and 50,000 flowers. neuschwanstein is beautifull but due to fog we could not see it very well from outside. Still its beautifull setting, you have an option of going in a horsedrawn carriage to the castle but we chose to walk and its up the hill so not good for people with sore legs, back etc condition. Once you reach the castle, the Q is very organized and it you know exactly what time to be there, you have more stair to climb all the way to the 4th floor. Must mention the little village in between Neuschwanstein & Linderhof, you dont get to spend too much time there , but its beautifull and they have a couple of shops open just for tour buses trade so you can buy souveniers etc. Food: you get lunch at The Neuschwanstein and we all went to the restaurant at the bottom of the hill, it was busy but food served quickly, you can also get food in the Inn half way to the castle

A fabulous trip - made more so by our tour guide (she was hilariously funny without knowing it!) and our fellow passengers. The heavy snow made it even more atmospheric. The castles are very impressive with wonderful interiors.

This is a must see tour. Try to convince the tour guide to go to Neuschwanstein FIRST to avoid crowds and have a more intimate connection with the castle.

A truly breathtaking tour! Loved every minute of it. Fantastic tour guide, wonderful lunch at the hotel near the castle, and incredible scenery. Did not have to wait at all to enter castle as those who were not in the tour did. Plenty of time to explore and take photographs outside the castle. I can't say enough good things about this tour and very friendly, helpful guide who spoke great English.
