Noboribetsu is known for having some of the best hot spring waters in Japan, with a whole series of different types to choose from. One of the must-see spots is Jigokudani (Hell Valley) just above the resort town, where you can see dramatic vents and spot amusing statues of 'oni' or demons, who are legendarily said to live in this volcanic valley. The nearby Date Historical Village is worth a visit, a theme park inspired by Japan’s feudal Edo Period, including a traditional Edo period town!
