素晴らしい経験でした
投稿者: にゃんた, 2017/09/26京都で、精神修養も兼ね初めて坐禅体験をしたいと思い立ちました。
お寺に直接、予約検討中にこのベルトラのモニターツアーを発見しました。
場所は、東福寺駅から10分程。まわりには東福寺塔頭が多くあり、勝林寺の入口がわからず迷ってしまいました。よく事前に確認して訪問がよいと思います。
門から本堂へ向かうと、吉祥紅葉が目に入ります。紅葉の時期ではないのですが
この葉が赤く染まるとどれほど美しいかと想像できます。
手入れの行き届いた京都らしい心なごむお庭です。
本堂入口は近衛家の大玄関を移築したと後に住職の説明で知ったが
お屋敷風のこじんまりとしたたたずまいでした。
毘沙門堂内の虎の大襖絵は、戸が閉まっていて入る事が出来ないので、ガラス越しに鑑賞しました。特別拝観の機会に是非、間近で見てみたいものです。
毘沙門天や吉祥天と善膩師童子を表す虎の姿は遠目からでも迫力満点です。
坐禅の会場には、お尻のあたる方は高くして座蒲団が敷かれています。
20歳代のお若い方が多くこの体験に参加されていました。
靴下は、脱いでとの案内でしたが、お寺のスタッフの方に確認したところ
この日は冷たい雨が降っていたので、履いていてもよいですよと言われ安心。
トイレは外にあるので事前に済ましておきます。
いよいよ噂の海老蔵さん似の住職が登場です。似ている、お声もそっくり。
お寺の由来や坐禅の呼吸法など分かりやすく説明して頂きました。
痛そうで怖い警策ですが、あくまでも住職に合図して心に決めてから受けます。
突然打たれるわけではないのでご心配なく。
15分間を休憩をはさみ2回です。雑念がでてなかなか集中できませんが、
会場にはビシバシと警策を打つ音が響きます。
参加していたほとんどの方が希望され叩かれていました。
私も意を決して、合図を住職に送り、バシンバシンと。
心地よい痛みで良い時間を得ました。ありがたい。
お茶をいただき終了です。
最後に勝林寺の門のムカデを描いた素敵なご朱印をいただき、帰りました。

An instructive hands-on workshop

We were able to choose a piece of broken pottery, try the technique on it and then take it home as a very special souvenir.

素敵な体験させて頂きました

初めに座禅についての説明があり、今まで思っていた座禅とは違う点や初めて知る事がたくさんあり、新しい学びの時間となりました。
座禅体験では15分間が２回と短い時間でしたが、なかなか頭を無にすると言う事は難しく、途中で何か考え事をしてしまったりうとうとしてしまったり邪念が入りました。
しかし日々生活していたらそんな15分間を過ごす事すらないので、都会の喧騒から離れ、セミの鳴き声や鳥のさえずりを聴きながら静かな時間を過ごす事ができ、身を清められました。
とても穏やかな気持ちになり、素敵な体験をさせて頂きました。
次は座禅だけでなく、ヨガや写経も体験してみたいです！

初めての座禅
投稿者: 嵐大好き親子, 2017/08/21毎日の暑さにぐったりしてましたので、心洗われ精神をシャキッとしてみたいと思い、大学生の娘と参加してきました。
8月猛暑の中、汗だくになりながら勝林寺に到着。
一番乗りでした。手入れの行き届いお庭がとても綺麗でした。始まるまでに汗もおさまり、お寺の住職さんの説明の後、いよいよ座禅開始。
ビシバシ叩かれるのを想像して緊張していましたが、このプランはそうではなく、自分で、集中力が切れてきたな、体が傾いてきたな、叩いてほしいと思った際に住職さんに意思表示をし、叩いてもらうものでした。
2回の座禅中に私は一度ずつ叩いてもらいました。
痛いというよりも、やはり気持ちがシャキッとなり、清々しい気持ちになりました。
娘は叩いてもらわなかったのですが、娘曰く、ビシバシと叩いてもらうのを期待していたのにとちょっとがっかりしていました。
終了後はお茶をいただきながら、ご住職のお話を聞いて終わりました。

Amazing experience with lovely instructors!
投稿者: Vanessa, 2017/07/28Even though I was quite late for my workshop (train faults), the instructors were really sweet about it, letting me catch my breath before the lesson started! The sweets and coffee that were served were very nice for a hot summer's day, and the lesson itself was well taught, patiently and with a lot of attention. I would totally come back for another experience/workshop, and I hope to be back next year again!

Gold Repair Course in Tokyo (Shin-Koenji Station)

The description of the route was very helpful, we had no problems in finding the studio.
While we attended, two older Japanese people did some gold repair as well. We had a lot of fun together!
The hosts gave us sweets and tea, and we talked a lot about our Japan travel.
We worked on chipped tea cups. The people who do a regular course a few times a months had more complicated things like broken plates.
The hosts also told us where to buy the materials in Japan.
It is a very good experience to get a glimpse in the possibilities of this technique.
But bear in mind that you wont be able to do a big piece in the given time.

Meiji Era tea cup repair
投稿者: Lois, 2017/07/05I was so looking forward to this class & it did not disappoint! Mr. & Mrs. Kuge are so friendly & patient. I restored a Meiji era tea cup & it is beautiful. Two long time students were working on their pieces while I was there, so I could see what more complicated repairs look like. I bought all the materials to take home to do in my own in Australia!

Kintsugi

Our whole family, including my 84-year old Japanese mother-in-law and our two adult children took the class together while on vacation in the Tokyo area. All the materials are provided and the introductory project of repairing chipped or cracked china cups and bowls (also provided) is easily accomplished during the time available. The Kuge family were very patient teachers and provided delicious homemade refreshments. They also packed the completed projects securely for the trip back home. We highly recommend the class if you are interested in this ceramic repair technique.

I want to do this again!
投稿者: Coco cook, 2017/05/30The Kuge's are a kind, patient and funny couple. They are very intuitive when you ask them questions. Mrs Kuge says many Japanese do not even know about kintsugi. There were 3 other students when we arrived. Two had been coming doing other projects and one had an expensive mug that broke. She wanted it repaired and found out about kintsugi and was there for the first time. Two of the students spoke English and was able to help explain and interpret but without them the Kuges would have eventually been able to understand and explain. The process takes 2-3 hours to complete while we converse, work, have cake and coffee and laugh. The studio is tiny but very comfortable. There are many examples of their work to inspire you and they are so beautiful. They show you everything you need and the process to repair and paint the gold on. My piece had 2 very small chips and a small crack but my son has 3 chips and a significant crack. If I had known what I should be looking for I would have chosen something with more damage rather than by the design on the piece. After the experience, on our way back to the hotel we stopped at Tokyu Hands and purchased the pigments and lacquer to do it at home. They have kits there but the kits include flammable liquids that would not pass inspection to bring on a plane. They have two types of lacquer and one of them is not flammable.
I highly recommend this experience, especially if you enjoy working such your hands, if you have any artistic bent or want to learn a traditional but disappearing art form.

Very kind teachers
投稿者: Eduardo, 2017/05/07We went on a Sunday afternoon to do a Kintsugi class. This couple of teachers were available. The class is very instructive and we could work on the pottery we brought. This art of mending broken things is very ancient and it appealed to so this classes. We were very happy and it took us two hours to go through all the process ad glueing and patching. We were invited tea, cheesecake and a Japanese watermelon! We would be very pleased if we did more classes with them, but unfortunately, we have to leave in a few more days! A delightful and artistically cultural experience!!
投稿者: Arielle & Christine, 2017/04/10The Kuges were so genuinely warm and inviting! Regrettably we had been a bit lost and arrived a few minutes late to the class. They were very forgiving and welcomed us into their creative space with a light snack and coffee. The studio was small and charming, and had shelves full of sculptures and pottery of all sizes. They showed us a few of their pieces and explained what we were going to do that day. They spoke English fairly well and were able to explain the steps easily. The atmosphere was casual and we were able to take the time to enjoy their company. We didn't feel rushed at all. Our finished pieces were carefully packed in plastic containers which we'd like to add, made it back to the U.S. safely! We had a delightful afternoon with the Kuges and were so excited by our new skill that we stopped by a nearby Tokyu Hands right after class to buy supplies to do our own Kintsugi at home! Overall, it was an enjoyable cultural experience! We highly recommend Kintsugi and Kuge Crafts as a way to experience a bit of Japanese culture outside of the common tourist hotspots.

Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys unique crafting.

Superb experience!
投稿者: Colin, 2017/01/09Amazing time at Kuge Krafts with the so kind and generous Kuge couple. Very intimate studio surrounded by pottery and perfect coffee and cake waiting for us upon arrival set the atmosphere. Excellent introduction to Kintsugi with the patient and encouraging advices from sensei which just make us wish we could come back for more or at least to try it again very soon at home! No doubt that I will brag about my amazing kintsugied sake glass at any occasion I get - yes you get to bring your piece of art back home.

PS: beware though that after that class you will want to voluntarily break any piece of ceramic you come across just for the excuse of having something to kintsugi...

秋のひと時 すがすがしい気持ちになれます
投稿者: 3137134 Sekiya, 2016/12/10紅葉見頃の真っ只中、人人人の東福寺への道を進む途中、ちょっとそれた脇道に入ると、そのお寺がありました。赤く色づいたもみじが風になびく、凛とした庭。こじんまりとした禅寺で、一般の拝観者もそれなりにいらっしゃいましたが、東福寺本殿に比べれば、ずっと静かに秋を感じられる場所でした。
庭を眺める20畳ほどの部屋で、30人ぐらいの参加者が一緒に坐禅を体験します。
上着と靴下を脱ぎ、非日常世界への没入の準備をします。気温の下がった秋の日でしたが、日差しがあったので厳しい寒さは感じません。それよりも清々しい気持ちが勝って、坐禅へのテンションが上がります。
住職と同窓のつながりという事で他のお寺から手伝いに来た若いお坊さんが坐禅について一から説明してくれました。住職は海老蔵似として一部で有名らしく、もしかしたら当てが外れた若い女性参加者もいたのかもしれません。が、わたし的には、この方もお話が楽しく、良いお坊さんに当たって良かったと思います。
坐禅は2回目ですが、5年ぶりぐらいで初体験と実質同じでしたが、今回の方が坐禅について、基本からいろいろ説明してもらえて良かったです。最初は5分 続いて10分 そして15分を2回という次第でした
最初の5分はとても長く感じるのですが、その後 段々慣れてくるのがはっきりわかりました。
3,4回目は警策という板棒で背中をビシッと精神注入してもらう事も出来、多くの参加者が自ら申し出て、気合いを入れてもらってました。私も2回 やってもらいました。特に男性には、手加減なくパーンと背中を叩いてくれます。痛いというよりは、気持ちいいです。
終わるとお茶が出て、しめのお話を頂きます。
なんという事のない番茶も、それに集中し、気持ちを込めて飲む事でいつもとは違う味がするというお言葉を実体験出来ました。
あっという間の1時間半でしたが、とても充実した気持ちの良い時間を過ごす事が出来ました。

投稿者: かめっく, 2016/12/05東福寺の鬼門を守っている毘沙門天が祀られている勝林寺というところに行きました。JR線・阪急線東福寺駅からも遠くなく東福寺の帰りに寄ることができる距離にあります。庭園もちょうど紅葉していて景色も綺麗でした。最初に東福寺との関係や禅宗について説明を聞きその後に座禅を組むという流れでした。座禅は15分セットを10分程度の休憩を挟み２回行います。臨済宗は前から、曹洞宗は後ろから、と警策で打たれる向きも違うようです。警策で打たれるかどうかは座禅を組んでいるあいだに手を合わせることによって希望制で行います。勝林寺は臨済宗でした。これはせっかくなので体験してみることをオススメします。全体では20人前後で中には外国の方も参加されていて逆に風情がありました。また住職さんから直接説明を聞けるので説得力があり、趣もあり来て良かったと思えました。トータルで１時間程度かかります。1人で参加している人もいたので、1人参加でも充分楽しめる内容です。

I totally recommend it, it was a very nice experience and we will try to continue doing Kintsugi at home, because it was so interesting and fun!
