Matcha Green Tea Making Experience at a Japanese-Style Cafe in Asakusa

Amazing experience

Reviewed by: Andrew

My Partner and I went to the Matcha Green Tea Course and the owners (a sweet couple) were so nice, patient and welcoming.

The husband hosted the class and had great English. For those who mind, they make sure to take photos and send them to you immediately, but also allow to take some by yourself during class.

We learnt all about the history of the Matcha Tea Ceremony and gained a greater appreciation of the art and taste of Matcha :)

They are very organised, the place is absolutely wonderful, we will be recommending all our family to go there.

The location is also great, it's a short walk from Sensō-ji Temple to you can do them both in the same day!

Modern Tea Ceremony in Ginza with Tea Bowl and Whisk Set to Take Home

Very informative and enjoyable atmosphere

The staff were extremely friendly from start to end; very knowledgeable about the history of tea ceremonies. There is also a nice matcha store out front with a variety of teas you can try from before/after the ceremony. Don't worry about coming too early as outside the store, there is a beautiful Japanese garden with a nice city backdrop. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

Private Tea Ceremony and Kimono Dressing Experience in Tokyo

Manna and Yoko did everything they could to make it special

Reviewed by: denise

Yoko and Manna were attentive and caring. They prepared a card for my Birthday, when I asked for music or photos to be taken they accommodated and made my requests happen.

I did not like the environment in the basement at all. I think it would have been more fun in a nice garden location and not solo. Especially for the cost. Please note the cancellation fee and this poor space before signing up.

Authentic Japanese Sencha and Matcha Green Tea Tasting Experience in Tokyo

Must do class! Amazing tea master!

Reviewed by: Leslie Arcin

My sister and i aren’t avid tea drinkers but we decided to try this out. Youske, the tea master who was giving us this experience is Japanese-American so for us he was very relatable, easy to speak to and has been one of the best people we were able to connect and ask questions about japan since language barrier wasn’t a problem. The session was just my sister and I and one other individual so the small, basically private , group made conversation really easy. This experience was a nice step back from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and this tea shop was so relaxing and charming! The other individual who was at this session with us was an avid tea drinker who knew her different types of tea and she had plenty to learn from this experience, and youske is very knowledgeable about all things tea. I personally knew nothing about tea expect for trying the complimentary matcha at restaurants and really enjoyed this experience. I think it did teach me to appreciate tea a bit more. The description says you try 10 but during our session we tried 13 different types of tea ranging from sencha to matcha and Gyokuro which is the highest quality tea made in Japan. My sister and I left this session feeling energized from not only the tea but also just the human connection of the experience. I asked him what he considers his title to be ,tea master or tea sensei or tea enthusiasts, and he just saids that tea is just served best with some nuanced things like temperature and steeping time and he likes giving people the experience of trying tea at its best.

Private Tea Ceremony and Kimono Dressing Experience in Tokyo

Absolutely fantastic and memorable experience

Reviewed by: Nadine

We were not sure what to expect, and were so happy and pleasantly surprised.
The three ladies who held the Tea Ceremony were all proficient in English. They treated us like Empresses and were gracious and kind.
We were dressed in the traditional outfits, which took time and patience on their part. The clothes and accessories were meticulously laid out and the process was flawless.
Once dressed, we were "guests" at the Tea Ceremony, and served tea after learning the process and the history. We then tried to emulate the process (I was not very good at that!) As a world traveler I have attended many events, but non matched this look back in to Japans history and the culture associated with this classic Japanese custom.

Private Tea Ceremony near Tokyo Tower with English-Speaking Instructor

Magnificent

Reviewed by: Ali AL-Asfour

It was a great experience which I don't mind doing it again. We started by wearing the Yukata with the assistance of 2 experienced ladies, the explanation was simplified and meant for when we wear it later on alone, after that my kids enjoyed taking pictures in the Yukata.
After that we started the Tea Ceremony.
The Tea ceremony master was very delicate in the performance, it was a poem with action. Her movemnets were majestic and make it seems easy, all that and while explaining every move. The Matcha was delicious.
After the performance, we had the chance to make the matcha ourself; this is when you realize that it wasn't as easy as it seems, even the children got a chance to try it.

At the end, we were very happy and have enjoyed it alot.

Also the ladies English was very good and clear

Modern Tea Ceremony in Ginza with Tea Bowl and Whisk Set to Take Home

Fine introduction

Reviewed by: Monique & John

At first it looked a bit strange, it was held in a part of a tearoom and we had the idea that our reservation was not known by the manager of this place.
But as an introduction it was a pleasant experience. The young man spoke English very well and gave us good info concerning the tea ceremony.
It would have been better if the place where it took place was a bit more private.
For a next time we will try the official tea ceremony, this experience has made us eager to try.

Private Tea Ceremony Experience with Take-Home Yukata in Tokyo

One of the greatest experiences of our trip!

Reviewed by: Christin

I wish we would have booked this tea ceremony earlier in our trip, because after this experience we would have loved to do more with this activity provider!
It was all we could have hoped for and more. Before the appointment we got a detailed plan, how to reach the building from different stations and we would have been welcomed at the main entrance(which we didn't know because my email provider put this exact mail in the spam folder -.- ). So we got there a bit early and after going to the toilet real quick, we kind of missed each other, but were on time at the room for the tea ceremony.
Everyone was wonderful, we were a couple and each one had their own instructor for the yukata wearing. We were told a lot of background in a really relaxed atmosphere, there was no hurry and we could re-do certain steps, when we weren't quite sure yet. My husband is quite tall(1,92m) but they were still able to find a yukata for him - of course my choice with 1,66m had a bit more variety ;) But since we feared before, that they wouldn't be able to have something for him, we were already really happy. For the full experience they even helped me to arrange my hair, which looks really good in the pictures. We also got some helpful material to practice at home with the yukata.
After the yukata instruction the tea ceremony started. We learned a lot and after the demonstration for each of us, we did it ourselves! It was so much fun and everyone was so nice - also everyone's English was really really good, not only by Japanese English-speaking standards.
After the tea ceremony we had some more time to take pictures in the whole get up and we went home really happy after a wonderful day. If it was possible, we would give more than 5 stars for sure! Thank so much again to everyone involved!

海外の友人と参加しました

Reviewed by: sumi

Elegant Tea Ceremony at Warakuan Teahouse in Tokyo

Interesting and Informative in Comfortable Sized Japanese Formal Setting

Reviewed by: Coville's

My son and I enjoyed the Formal Instruction by a Certified Tea Ceremony Expert and his wife speaking in Japanese and their older daughter translating for us. We were greeted at their gate, led to their front business door and switched from our street shoes to their special sandals and directed into an informal Japanese meeting room with a tatami mat and small floor table where we put on their special one-toed white socks and then their sandals. We then went over several sheets of their English/Japanese explanations of each of the steps of the tea ceremony explaining words that are spoken and responses that are given. There is a lot of symbolism and purpose for each movement throughout the ceremony; specific movement and placement of the handheld fans, preparation with tea scoop and whipping utensils, and finally the making of the teas themselves. The ancient tea bowls used are passed down in the family through generations. The Tea Master picks a theme for each ceremony and chooses three items to depict that theme in a special section of the room (rooms can vary in size and roof height--commonly low ceilings required scooting into the room on your knees on the tatami mats and scooting around to the themed wall) and then you scoot to your tea position lifting yourself with the flat part of your fisted hand and then sitting with your lower legs under you bottom. The tea is brewed over a small pot of special wood in the corner of the room. When completed we exited and reviewed the ceremony back in the community room we started in and they answered our questions as best as they could with their daughter's translation. It was a very personal experience.
