Maiko Dance with Dinner & Kyoto Night View Tour by KYOTO Sightseeing“OKOSHI”Bus

Great experience

Reviewed by: Val, 2017/04/10

We were very pleased with the wonderful dinner set out ready for our arrival. I am vegetarian but could not organise prior notice, so the hostess explained the food types and which were suitable for me. Three of our party are elderly and stools were quickly provided for them. The Maiko was exquisite and performed two dances with opportunity for photos at the end. The walk through the gardens was like a magical forest.
We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and highly recommend as an insight into Japanese culture

We enjoyed every moment of this tour. It was well organized. The Kaiseki dinner was delicious. It gave us a taste of various kinds of Japanese traditional food. The Maiko dance was beautiful and captivating. After the dance, we had a short stroll at the very beautiful Japanese garden which was very enjoyable! The last brief stop of the tour was going to the top of a mountain to see the night view of Kyoto which ended the evening perfectly. We just found we hadn't had enough of all of it!

Traditional Tea Ceremony Experience near Kinkakuji Temple in Kyoto

I Recommend This Experience!

Reviewed by: Hiroshi, 2016/08/24

This was my first trip to Kyoto since an elementary school trip.
I'd always had something of an interest in experiencing the tea ceremony, so this was really great! From the historical tea ceremony etiquette to the many types of tools, I learned from the instructor how to properly enjoy the tea ceremony. I also had some delicious tea and sweets.

The classroom had a very calm atmosphere and even though it was close to Kinkakuji, it was quiet and I had a relaxing time there. It's a great memory from my Kyoto trip!

The instructor was so kind and answered my questions carefully. If I have the chance, I'd like to make tea using my new knowledge and remembering the important elements of the tea ceremony.

We definitely chose the right option with this tea ceremony! Thank you for such a valuable experience!

(Translated from Japanese by Veltra.com)

  • "Every day is a good day!"

  • Charming entrance

  • About 1-2 minutes on foot from Kinkakuji

  • The classroom is a neat and tidy Japanese-style room

  • Here you can receive the tea made by your teacher

  • There are plenty of customers from overseas

  • Elegant sweets

  • Kimono display

  • Nice amount of foam

  • Seasonal display

Amazing tea ceremony experience

Reviewed by: Emma, 2016/01/30

It was our first tea ceremony and we didn't know what we could expect. We were so pleasantly surprised! The mood was awesome. It was very impressive to see how a tea ceremony is run by someone really knowledgeable. The tea master explained very well about the tea ceremony rituals, and she's also friendly. We loved that we only had to focus on the beauty of such a ceremony, from the sounds to the movements. Also, two Japanese sweets are given! You can ask any question you want, which feel great as well. Now we can make our own powdered tea, and follows the peaceful way of tea thinking! Thank you very much to propose such a lifetime experience.

Tea ceremony in Kyoto

Reviewed by: Catherine, 2016/01/10

Myself, my husband and my son (aged 12) booked in for this experience and I am so glad we did. While the groups are limited to 5 we were really lucky and were the only ones at that session. This made it an extra special experience. Our hostess was immaculately dressed and had absolutely impeccable manners. Her English was excellent, and after the ceremony she patiently and graciously answered all our questions. Our hostess was very knowledgable about the history of tea in japan, and the different types of tea, and has studied at one of the major 'tea schools' in Japan. We sampled a light tea- which is used for many occasions. The thick tea as it was explained to us is used for more formal ceremonies. The best part was we had the opportunity to make the tea ourselves. Delicious. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of a tea ceremony, it is something that my family will always remember.

Comments from activity operators

Thank you so much for writing the nice review! And I'm sorry I didn't write back soon. Since I'm trying to offer the authentic tea ceremony here, the guests can learn how to greet or move in addition to watching the way of tea here. I'm happy that many of foreign tourists also like this traditional tea ceremony experience.

Traditional tea ceremony near the 'Golden Pavillion' Kinkakuji Temple

Reviewed by: Catherine, 2016/01/09

I along with my husband, and son (aged 12) booked in for a traditional tea ceremony. The experience was wonderful! From the second we walked into the house- which is a traditional old Kyoto style wooden house- we were transported to a different era. Our hostess was very knowledgable and particular in her technique having studied at one of the tea schools in Japan. She explained all the steps in the ceremony in excellent English and was happy to take questions. One of the highlights after observing the ceremony, was then being invited to participate and make your own green tea, being guided through each step by our immaculately dressed hostess. The groups are limited to 5, however it was just us that day, so it was very a special experience for us as a family. Our hostess was also able to tell about the history of tea in Japan, and also the development of the tea ceremony as we see it today and explain where the cups were made, and why they need to be turned as you consume the tea. The tea was delicious. A great experience! Catherine, Australia.

Walking into the Shozan Garden your receive an immediate feeling of both awe and Zen at its mere beauty. We were then greeted by several staff members who seated and served us during our meal. The meal was a traditional Japanese meal that gave you an intro into Japanese cuisine; if you are not already familiar. Towards the middle of our meal, the beautiful maiko was introduced and began her performance which was the definition of grace, beauty and eludes to the work and craft of the full Geisha. Later that evening walking thorough the Shozan Garden you feel at peace, as though this is the place in which you could live out your existence. This experience should be a #1 on your list of things to do in Kyoto.

Up Close Maiko Experience

Reviewed by: Sami, 2014/05/24

I signed up for this package thinking this tour was in English. It was in Japanese. Food was OK. Average food that you would expect from tours. Nothing amazing, but if you never had Kyoto dish this is a good experience for you. Dinner was near Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), not in Gion. Another detail that I had missed. Though it was impressive to see some trees as old as 500 years old in the Jaoanese garden where we had dinner, the garden itself was not so enjoyable. Night view of the Kyoto is lame and not sure if it was worth driving all the way across town for that. Recommended for Maiko experience only.
