An interesting experience, a must try!

The instructor was very patient and provided many templates for reference, so I didn't have to worry about my drawing skills or not knowing what to do.

However, there are two things to be aware of. The first is that only Japanese instruction is available, so foreign travelers may need to have basic Japanese skills (or a translator) to understand the teacher's instructions, and the second is that it will take about 2-3 hours to make the artwork, so be careful with your itinerary.

However, this experience is a great way to learn about traditional Japanese craftsmanship and the finished product is a meaningful souvenir of your trip!

細かい作業に苦戦

思っていた以上に大変な作業でした。
最高でも2時間で終わると思っていましたが、私の選んだデザインは複雑で3時間半ほどかかりました。体験後に予定がありましたが、ぎりぎり間に合うか間に合わないかの瀬戸際でした。人によっては丸一日かけて作った人もいるそうで、予定を慎重に組んだほうが良さそうです。
各工程なかなか時間がかかり、繊細な作業になるので、デザイン決めは早めに決めたほうがいいです。自分はかなり細かいデザインにしてしまい、苦戦しました。
また、手や服がラメだらけ（ギラギラではない）になる可能性があります。
何度か手を洗えば落ちてきますが、なかなかすぐには落ちません。手袋があればなあと思いました。

伝統工芸展などでいつも目に留まる「沈金」。どう創るのか、気になっていましたら、体験できるとのこと。掘るのはちょっと難しかったけど、仕上がりを見て、先生のおっしゃる通りびっくり！の艶やかさ。うれしくなっちゃいました!!　友達にも作品見てもらって、もう一度嬉しかったです。

アラブからの学生が20名以上で一度に参加しました。和綴じは興味深く、難しい部分は講師とお手伝いの方が助けてくれました。型を切り抜くのにかなり時間がかかると説明になかったので、時間内に終わるかドキドキしましたが、生徒たちはとても楽しく参加していました。

優しい先生（本格的職人さん）が教えて下さいました。
色々お話している中で、友禅の賞をとられているようなすごい方が教えて下さった事がわかりました。先生は、どういう絵柄が易しく出来るかなども教えて下さいました。あらかじめ用意されていた絵柄が10種類以上はあったと思います。見本もありました。貴重な体験と思い出が出来ました。ありがとうございました。

観光地から離れた民家の2階での体験でした。正直思っていた楽しさはなく、黙々とやる感じです。先生は、こうしてああして、はい、やってな。であっさり終わり。作り方の手順書と違うし質問しても、ゆうたやろ？なんで出来んの？と言われて恥ずかしかったです。作っている間、ずっと他の事の独り言を話されていたのも嫌な感じでした。悪気はないんでしょうけれど。それと大概は3千円以上になりますよ。

和綴じのやり方をとても丁寧に教えてもらい、上手に作れました。それだけでなく、技術を支える材料ができてきた背景や、技術を維持する職人の技などさまざまな話が聞けて、とても充実した時間を過ごしました。
修学旅行生だけのものにしておくのはもったいない！また行きたいと思っています。

初めての螺鈿体験でしたが，先生がとても優しく丁寧に教えて下さり、難しい細かい工程でしたが，2時間ほどで素敵な作品ができました。

何度も観光で来ていた京都ですが、とても良い思い出が出来ました。
早速、自宅で使っていますが，今後も見る度に作った時のことを思い出すことでしょう。大変お世話になり，ありがとうございました。

螺鈿の繊細さに驚きました！

当日電話で時間の変更をお願いした際に心良く対応していただき助かりました。
体験では、螺鈿をカッターで切り取っていくところや漆を塗って所定の位置に置くことが難しかったです。しかし、丁寧に教えてくださり楽しい時間を過ごすことができました！ありがとうございました！！お家で使用するのが楽しみです。

螺鈿細工体験をさせて頂きました！一人の参加でも集中出来たので、楽しめました。ただ、デザインが難しいと時間がかかってしまうので、最初は単純なデザインでチャレンジした方が満足な出来になるかなと思います。

自分らしいかんざし作り

選べる形の種類や色が多くて、自分らしさを出せて楽しかったです。手先は不器用ですが、それ程難しい作業ではなく、飽きずに完成できました。一見難しそうですが、花びらひとつひとつの作り方は同じなので、お店の方のアドバイス通りに繰り返し練習していると、段々上手につくれるようになるのがわかりました。
おまけで葉っぱをつけたり、ビーズを好きなだけ付けたりと、カスタマイズできる範囲が広いので、同じ種類を選んでも、本当に自分だけの作品をつくることができます。センスに自信がなくても、作品例が豊富に飾られているので、好みのデザインを探して真似することもできます。

無器用でも大丈夫。レッツ気軽に「つまみ細工」ハンドメイド！

夫婦で参加しました。自称不器用の妻も楽しく、いつまでも形に残せる自分たちの作品をお土産にできて大満足の一日になりましたので、その体験をご紹介。

記念日なので何か京都らしい体験をしてみようと見つけたのが「つまみ細工」体験。つまみ細工の花簪はとても綺麗で、妻に初デートの時プレゼントしたこともあり、記念になるかなと挑戦してみることに。

まず作品の形状を選びます。下にいくほど難易度が高く、時間がかかります。
妻が「凜」、私は「はなやぎ」を選択。初体験で二人ともおよそ2時間程度かかりました。

次に指定された大きさ・枚数分の生地を選びます。優柔不断の私には時間がかかるところ。完成をイメージして色の組み合わせをイメージしておくといいかもしれません。

色が決まるとまず花びらを作っていきます。先生を真似して作ります。最初は難しいかもしれませんが、1枚、2枚と作っていくうちにだんだん慣れてくると思います。素敵な作品になることに胸を膨らませながら、後は同じ要領でひたすら指定枚数作ります。数が多いとたいへんな行程ですが、だんだんと上手く、早く作れるようになっていくのを実感できますよ。不器用な妻もちゃんと作れました！

パーツができたら次は紐作り、花びらの組み立てをしていきます。先生の言うとおりやっていくと、だんだんと形になっていくことに感動。とっても素敵な作品に仕上がりました！
おしゃれでつけても、ディスプレイとして飾っても映えるオシャレな、自分たちだけの作品っていいですね。

最後は丈夫なケースを頂けますので、歩きの方も安心してお持ち帰りできます。

○こんな方にオススメ！
綺麗な花簪が大好きな方。
形の残る自分だけの作品を完成させてみたい方。
難しい作業は苦手。不器用。でも根気はバッチリの方。

きっと満足の作品が作れると思いますよ。是非体験してみてください！

作品選び。迷いどころです。
生地選び。枚数が多くもっと迷います…！
パーツ作り。同じやり方を沢山作るのでだんだんと慣れてきます。
組み立て。だんだんと形になっていくとテンションUp!　あと一息
完成！！　上手にできました！

コロナ禍の中他に体験者さんはいらっしゃらず1人でした。

黙々と貝を切り出したり楽しかったです。
蒔絵や螺鈿がどの様に作られてるのかがわかり次こうしたらもっと上手くいくということがわかりました。

他のアイテムでもまた作りたいです。

家族3人で体験いたしました。
切ったら貼ったり描いたり…かなり細かい作業で、コンタクトを外して眼鏡にしないと老眼で見えませんでした…。
持っていったデザインが難しすぎたので時間超過してしまいご迷惑をおかけしてしまいました。
教えてくださった先生は最後までお付き合いくださり、色々と教えてくださいました。
出来上がったものはちゃんと使っています。
お弁当箱も毎日持っていっている様ですよ。
また伺いたいです。

自分達でデザイン持って行きましたが、難しすぎる絵柄でした…。

絵筆の扱いに苦労し、あっという間に時間が過ぎました。

下書きがあったので、レイアウトに苦労せずに色付けが出来ました。
下地が白だったので色を重ねる時に水の加減が非常に難しかったです。パレット上で絵具を溶かすのは、時間がかかり水分が必要になるので、どうしても色が薄くなりがちなのでチューブ式で少しずつ出るタイプだと時間の節約になると思いました。集中できたので時間が短く感じました。有難うございました。

水分調整が何よりも難しい点ではありますが、四角い絵具は古くこら使われている顔彩という絵具です。

I had such a good time time at this activity -- I highly recommend it. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Aside from making and poking holes in your paper, you are involved in every step, including designing, tracing and cutting the stencil you use for the cover art. More than worth the price, and the souvenir you take with you is definitely meaningful.

予約は14時だったんですが、集合時間が13時だったみたいで全く気付かず申し訳なかったです。予約の際は皆さんご注意を。
体験はお盆明けで、一人参加が他に一人居ただけで空いていたため、丁寧に教えて頂きました。金粉と螺鈿でピカピカに仕上がりました。よりオリジナルが作りたい方は自分で絵を持っていくとイイですよ。ただし細い線や細かい絵は無理です。螺鈿がとても薄くて割れやすいのでそれどころではありません（笑
また金粉を付ける線も細筆とは言え、素人が細く描くのは難しいと思います。
時間とデザインにはゆとりを持って挑戦してみてください。

definitely a highlight of our vacation!

Absolutely worth it. Language barrier not an issue in the slightest, she has prepared materials in English to translate instructions. They were very kind and patient. Excellent teacher, the final results were beautiful. Wide range of colors and patterns and styles to choose from, I was not disappointed in our choices. Would do it again for sure!

Gold Leaf Stamping Traditional Art Lesson in Kyoto

More like a demonstration than a hands on experience

Husband and I did the chinkin class and the gold leaf stamping class at kyoto artisan workshop and we have to say that we enjoyed the chinkin class better as it was more hands on. For the gold leaf stamping class, we did the cutting of the template but the actual gold leaf application was done by the teacher (our teacher that day was Mr Fuji). This is probably due to the fact that gold leaf wrinkles at the slightest touch and it was probably too difficult for beginners to handle. A tip for those choosing this class - choose a design that is not too fine for a better effect. I chose a crane design and the long thin legs of the crane did not stick well.

Delicate Chinkin Style Lacquerware Decoration Workshop in Kyoto

I did a raden class at sagaraden nomura and a makie class at innui shikki and I have to say that my husband and I both enjoyed the chinkin class at kyoto artisan workshop best of all. The teachers were elderly and speak Japanese only but we had no problems following through the teacher's demonstration. What sets kyoto artisan workshop apart was the incredibly hands on experience from the woodcutting to the application of lacquer and metallic powders, unlike the other workshops that we've been to where some steps were done for us by more expert hands so that we would have a nice product to take home. As a result we learnt a lot. Highly recommend this class.

It was nice to prepare, cut and adjust the paper to make the fan.We also had the oportunity to see the staff crafting the fans. We were very well welcomed in a nice atmosphere. The fans they are making there are bsolutely beautiful and delicate.
