Walking tour of a group of 5 with local english speaking Japanese lady who eagerly shared her enthusiasm about Kyoto history, religion, and culture. We went through old town Kyoto where no tourists roam, visiting important shrines and temples large and small, ornamental shops, tried hand made authentic tofu at a centuries old tofu shop, centuries old shops, historical sites and info, had a tea break, roam through Kiyomizu, and endng up at Kiyomizudera temple which is stunning in the Fall. It was a peaceful and enjoyable walk. Better than getting stuck in tourist traps and figuring out the public transportation system.

The bamboo grove is breathtaking but we struggled to keep up with our guide through the train station because our group was larger than expected and she made no concessions for the crowded conditions.
The highlight was the lunch on a long boat. We expected a bento box but got a banquet which you cook yourself on a little stove. You have to be able to sit on the floor of the boat for the hour’s cruise but it’s worth it for the views and the experience. Boat capacity 16. Lots of nice places to eat next to the river if boarding a small river raft and sitting cross legged is not for you.

It was a fun experience getting to walk around the market, learn about sake, getting to try various sake types, and then taking all the items we gathered as a group and used them to create our dinner meal. Everyone was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. We have taken this tour before a few years ago and we enjoyed just the same as the first time.

丘や雑木林等の裏道も歩くので歩きやすい服装とスニーカーがマストです。虫が多い季節は虫よけスプレーも必需品です。

We went as a couple to the market and sushi tour in Kyoto. To begin with the class takes you across the Kyoto Market area in wich you can taste, learn and see a lot of different stores, products, food, arts and crafts of culinary style. Along the way we tasted different things and had a quiz about the market at the end after learning a lot of the history. Afterwards we went to an old sake brewery where we tasted water from the well, 2 different types of sake and 2 types of homebrew beers, all of them delicious! And to finish off the day, we got to the cooking lessons where a couple of very friendly ladies took us tru the basics of some of the typical dishes in Japanese cooking like miso and cucumber salad, as well as making a sushi roll from scratch. It was a fun experiencie, the guide was very fun and friendly, all around a very pleasing tour, worth it if you are in Kyoto and are eager to see the market and understand some of the things that are not so easy to understand without a Japanese person explaining along the way!

This is a well thought and designed tour to give you a glimpse of Kyoto. This is indeed a small group tour (6 in total) and that made it very personal. The tour guide (apologies I forgot the name - the Dutch guy) was very informative. We walked and took the train when needed. We have seen an amazing Zen temple, walked to the Fushini-Irani Shrine, and then visited Gion by night. We were lucky enough to spot a geisha and a maiko. All and all a nice day in Kyoto. Highly recommended.

It was an interesting and fun crash-course through the market. We learned a lot of fun little facts along the route while we were picking up done ingredients for the sushi making part of the tour. It was nice to know what the various shops had along the way instead of just guessing.
The sake museum was a fun little experience and crash course about the history and making of sake. We got to taste some different sakes and rice beers, and my fiancé and I purchased their best bottle of sake and some yuzu as well from the museum.
Finally the sushi making was very fun and entertaining. We got to put together the ingredients for our sushi meal and it all came out very nicely. We even got a little cookbook to keep as well.

Two guides are really awesome! Just two small pieces of advice, when gathering, I had trouble in finding the guide. I don't know which group is urban adventure group. It will be a better start to spot the guide easily. And our group has two guides, if they can all introduce themselves before the walk instead of during the walking process, it will be great! Thank you all. I had a wonderful afternoon even it was a rainy day.

I was fortunate enough to be the only person on this tour so had a personalised tour! Tour guide was excellent, clearly intelligent person. As somebody with experience of living both in Europe and Japan she was able to reflect on cultural characteristics and differences between east/west ideologies which led to interesting/easy flowing conversations. She allowed a good balance of directed information but also gave me time to myself for contemplation i.e. of gardens. She was clearly responsive to my interests and needs and I'm sure would be flexible where possible to suit the requests of the group.

It's a good tour to get to know the central area of Kyoto.
Our guide did a good job guiding us through the market to the Sake tasting and then the Sushi making.
We did the afternoon tour and it can be crowded in the Nishiki market at that time.
We went back on a morning and it's much nicer then.
The highlight of the tour was the Sushi making.
2 lovely ladies explained and taught us how to make sushi.
After making the sushi we had a nice meal.
Thank you very much for your lovely comment . We are glad to know that you enjoyed the program.
