We thoroughly enjoyed this excellent tour of beautiful Kyoto and the amazing Todaiji Temple, and Nara deer park. The buffet lunch was very good with plenty of choice and many vegetarian options. The guides were both knowledgeable and helpful. Plenty of time was allowed at each location.
The tour office at Kyoto station is a bit difficult to find but the staff at Veltra gave us clear instructions and a google link on request. The tour office is at the basement level just opposite the basement entrance to the Avanti building.
Veltra also helped us sort out our voucher by emailing it directly to Sunset tours as we couldn't print it.
Highly recommended!

it was a beautiful sunny day, the english speaking guide was nice but hard to understand his english, it will be better when the company provides free wi-fi on the bus like in Tokyo and the Lunch buffet was poorly for this price. Next time will be greater if the company, organise for the Tour Groups separat room with Lunch buffet, look up much better as mixes with others. Lunch time was to short.

Beautiful Temples and wonderful gardens and scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of people!
The English translation device, which is available on the bus, only worked for the journey to the Kinkakuji Temple. After that there was no English explanation of where we we going or what we were seeing. Pity!

The food was based off of local Kyoto tradition and was a wide selection of food. There was a Geisha dance but it was only one Geisha and was a short performance which was disappointing. The place was nice and garden was pretty though.

This tour is an incredible experience! From the beginning you are taken on a bus tour of Kyoto with audio and video in your language about the shrines, temples, and history of Kyoto. You are taken to the beautiful Shozan resort in the mountains where you are are introduced to a traditional Kyoto style feast and watch a beautiful maiko dance in front of your eyes in perfect poise. The package also includes photo with the maiko and a stroll within the shozan garden. This beautiful garden is definitely worth checking out with incredible nature and photo opportunities. You are then taken up the mountain for a breathtaking view of the city of Kyoto at night. Very relaxing and a great way to experience an authentic maiko performance.

Far too large of a group. We could never hear the guide speaking unless we managed to get directly next to him. He had a microphone but never seemed to speak into it properly. I’d recommend just hopping a taxi and doing an audio tour instead of this. To be fair, the guide was incredibly nice and polite, as most Japanese we encountered were and the Nijo Castle and golden pavilion were lovely spots. I’d recommend skipping the ex-imperial palace unless you get advanced tickets with access to the interior.

WE booked the tour a day before , spontaneously. On the day of the tour we were not able to print out our vouchers as it was requested in the booking. yet, the colleagues from the office made it possible for us to change the date for our tour and forward our booking to the service provider.
The day of the tour was a greyish and rainy one. Hot green tea and blankets made our stay on board very comfortable. We enjoyed the tour (used English translation).

This was the second tour that my husband and I booked using Veltra. The app is so easy to use. I was sitting in the hotel lobby waiting to go to our train. In less than 20 minutes we found a tour for Kyoto, purchased and confirmed tickets. The quality of tour that Veltra books for is consistent. We like that we can search for tours in English or that have English support. The open top bus company went above and beyond. The weather the day of our tour in Kyoto was weird. The day started with a mix of snow/hail which transitioned to full sun only to be followed by torrential downpour. We decided to go ahead a brave the 1.5 hour tour anyway, justifying that rain is only water and we could very easily dry off or change to dry clothes if we really need to. Veltra provided clear directions on our ticket confirmation for where to find the correct bus terminal. The Open Sky Bus tour guides greeted us at the bus terminal and were very friendly. They gave us ear buds for the English audio for the tour. As we entered the bus we were given rain ponchos, hot green tea, and instant hand warmers. This was amazing service and something that really made the tour. Even though it was cold, the sun came out and it ceased raining. The hot drinks and hand warmers really eased the cold of our January tour. Seat numbers were assigned. Knowing this now, I wish I would've asked the ticket counter if could have the seats in the very front of the bus. We had great views of some amazing sites in Kyoto. We felt like we got a great highlights or best-of tour. The audio had great music between talking bits. The information in the audio provided great history and insight into the city of Kyoto. It gave us some great ideas about which places we wanted to go back and visit. As it was our time in town was limited, so after the tour we actually took a local train down to Fushimi Inari shrine, which is not included in the tour, but a quick two-stop local train ride.

It was fun and very interesting afternoon with our tour guide Kay Zee (I hope I spelled his name correctly). He’s very knowledgeable about the temples we visited and also very engaging. He’s also a good story teller and knows a lot of trivia about Kyoto. I also learned something about geisha as relayed by our guide.
Overall great tour and great experience with our guide.
Highly recommended.

You will see a maiko and get dinner for a significantly lower price then most tours that do this.... but honestly I would go to geisha corner and just watch the show there and not join this tour if you were to ask me again. This is as the tour is in Japanese- I was prepared for this and did not mind it but still.... on the bus you are given a English hearing guide so you can understand and they point out different buildings as you drive but it is pretty dark throughout the tour so you can't really see so much. The food was not tourist friendly, it was authentic Kyoto cuisine and it looked nice but there were very weird looking dishes with no English explanation.... so I did not eat 2/3 of it because I did not want to get sick with ingredients my body cannot handle (we are talking very strange unidentifiable ingredients). The maiko comes and does 2 dances, then you can take a picture with her and then she answers questions in Japanese. So the whole interaction with her is about 15 minutes long tops. Finally the gardens in the location were nice but overall not worth the 60 pounds just go to geisha corner and treat yourself to fancy nice dinner (that you can eat).

We weren't sure what to expect with this dinner as it's a very reasonable cost we had low expectations, however were very pleasantly suprised. The hosts at Shozan were very friendly and accomodating and the food was lovely and traditional.
The arrival of our Maiko was announced and she danced so beautifully allowing the the rare opportunity for a photo with her even a few questions, followed by a walk in the gardens.
The bus tour allowed us an insight into places for us to visit in the following days.
