We booked this tour last minute and we’re a little aprehensive given some of the negative reviews and very reasonable cost. We couldn’t have been proved more wrong. The tour was excellent value for money.. in fact our group of four all said we’d had our money’s worth in the first 10 minutes. Our guide Uri was brilliant. She was fun, full of enthusiasm and provided a real indite into the Gion area and history and life of the geikos and Meikos. When we happened upon a couple during the tour her delight was genuine and totally heartwarming. It was great for us too!! I can’t understa where the negative reviews have come from, this tour did exactly what it promised to do and more. Probably the best value tour of our time in Japan. Would highly recommend andall credit to our guide Uri for a job very well done.

I really liked watching how Maiko San was dancing. Also, she kindly answered all questions we made. The performance itself consisted of two dances, a game with Maiko San and answering questions about life of Maikos. The only thing I wished that the translation was more accurate. The translator was not always able to translate the questions and answers. Overall, the experience was very interesting and if I had chance, I would go again.

We had quite low expectations after reading in guide books that tourist tea ceremonies usually aren’t held with real Geiko, however this experience was fantastic. The tea room is rather unassuming but our party of 3 adults had the pleasure of a Spring Dance, tea ceremony and 30 minutes chatting to the Geiko (who spoke excellent English). We got a real taste of the geisha culture. We got to meet a geisha and a maiko.
We got to talk to them about their culture and lifestyle and also got pictures.
The dance performance was lovely, and the tea ceremony was fascinating. The house mother was very accommodating. Although she always seemed in a rush, a hurry.. she was very sweet and even translated conversations between us and the geisha and gave us a brief insight into their lives.
Overall, it was a memorable experience, we thoroughly enjoyed it even though it seemed a bit rushed.

We got to meat a Maiko named UmeHina. She was truly nice and candid, despite the language barrier she tried hard to make conversation and to understand what we were saying and answer our questions. She's amazingly beautiful, breathtakingly. We played dames, laughed and experienced an incredible night. Highly, highly recommended

My partner and I really enjoyed this. The food was delicious, the setting was authentic, and the maiko was beautiful and charming. Our English interpreters were also lovely, welcoming and helpful. The maiko only performed one dance for us instead of the two described in the event, but we still had an amazing time.

Our Maiko Banquet experience was easily the highlight of our trip to Japan. Booking was incredibly easy and everyone was so kind about accommodating dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was dreamy and the meal was lovely. The Maiko herself was charming and beautiful! We would recommend this to anyone fortunate enough to visit Kyoto.

After an half hour bus ride to the venue, dinner was served following by a show with single maiko. It's a decent performance lasting 15 minutes. The photo taking session with maiko by individual guests took the longest time for the night's activities.

Kyoto Maiko Makeover and Samurai Dress-up Experience with Optional Stroll Plan

I decided on this studio based on their fair price, high quality, and positive reviews, and I'm glad I did! While my wife was getting dressed as a Geisha, I decided I'd take part in the experience with her and do the Samurai plan. On the way to the dressing room there was a small outdoor area with a very unique looking duck and a good number of impressive looking koi - truly beautiful and relaxing. Upon arrival, the room was very well kept and the material of the clothes were obviously quite high. When we got to the shooting room and they handed me the katana, I was relieved to discover it had proper weight and they did not save on expense with a cheap, fake sword of weak material and poor quality.
For those wanting to try this out, I'd definitely recommend opting into the stroll/outdoor options for some truly fantastic pictures. Also important is timing! If you want to have pictures on your free stroll time with few to no people in the background, go at the earliest appointment available (that's what we preferred), however, if you'd like it to look like a bustling city in that era, an afternoon shoot will have a good crowd of other people from various shops who are also dressing up!

Absolutely loved the experience of meeting Maiko. I finally fulfilled my "Memoirs of a Geisha" dream Haha The name of our Maiko was Fukuya, and she was beautiful, answered all our questions, was very nice and I loved playing the game with her!
The only reason my review is 4 stars and not 5 is only because of a bit of a mix up with our food. The husband really doesn't like fish, so we had made sure ahead of time that he wouldn't be getting any seafood, but pretty much his entire meal contained fish, all but for a little steak. So, I ended up eating 1.5 meals (I hate wasting food) hahaha But, other than the hubby having very little food, the food was really great! So delicious!
I would definitely recommend a meet up with a Maiko if you get that chance. We didn't see 1 Maiko or Geisha walking around, so if seeing one of these beautiful ladies is on your bucket list, book a visit! We absolutely loved it, it was a big trip highlight.

It was wonderful to have this authentic experience. Great environment both the teahouse mother and the geiko-san were gracious and accommodating. They're truly dedicated to the geisha art and educating people about.
We learned so much and enjoyed our time at the Tomikiku tea house.
I would highly recommend. This is one of the highlights of our trip!

Kyoto Maiko or Geisha Makeover Experience with Optional Gion Stroll
A must-do activity in Kyoto especially to experiencing the old Japan.

We thought the photo shoot would just be normal dressing up, but it is a lot more than that. The studio provided a complete photo shoot including make-up, dress and other accessories. The make-up for Maiko was a lot more fun and let you experience the real Maiko. The studio has all the essential stuff so you don't need to bring anything. They provided make-up remover, cream, oil and even normal make-up for when you clean up the Maiko. I really enjoy the make-up experience and chose my dress. We had about 15 minutes walk outside the studio in the Maiko experience in the Gion district which was very fun. I highly recommend this activity especially for travelers to Japan.
A minor suggestion to make the photo shoot experience more fun would be photographer should interact more with customers to make it more fun and relaxing experience while photo shooting otherwise for foreigners like us might feel a bit tense when posing.

Maiko was very beautiful and graceful . Her performance was great. I enjoyed it very much. The tour was a little rush. After we finished dinner we only had 15 mins left to shop and walk around the garden. The staff in the restaurant was polite and nice. I only wish they could introduce in both Japanese and English (They only speak Japanese so we had no idea what was going on)

We were not quite sure what to expect from this. It is really hard to meet Maiko in private but thanks to Veltra we were able to meet a real Maiko (actually a Geiko), talk with her and have our photos taken with her.
We had all the time the we wanted to be with her, we never felt like we were rushed. The Maiko spoke English and she was an absolute delight to be seen. We will never forget this time. Thank you so much Veltra!.

Great tour and very informative on the history of Gion district. Given the poor weather condition at the time of the tour, our guide still completed the tour and is very engaging throughout. We enjoyed hearing about the geisha life, education, etc. We saw points of interest - shrine, streets, tea houses, and relics. A suggestion would be to have a better meeting location as it was quite difficult to find for those not familiar with the region.

施設自体は、ビルの一角で全然風情のないところでしたが、舞妓さんを間近で見られるとてもいい機会でした。
特に質疑応答は、めったにないチャンスだと思います。
舞妓さんの苦労などがわかりました。
まだ１０代なのに、とてもしっかりしていて、びっくりしました。
写真撮影、踊り鑑賞、ちょとした芸妓遊びはとても思い出になりました。

A great "sampler" of Kyoto Maiko culture

This experience is a great "sampler" or introduction to Kyoto's Maiko history and culture. There was a short tea ceremony (some lovely Japanese ladies who were also attending were great for explaining the proper etiquette, but that's definitely not required). They served a small plate of sweets with the tea, and I must say the tea was the most perfect temperature - hot but not too hot to drink! The maiko also did 3 dances to recorded music which were so graceful and precise! Finally, there was a time to speak to the maiko directly and ask questions. If you're thirsty, they do sell drinks. It's a small facility that some taxi drivers may not be familiar with, so be prepared with an address! Overall, it's a lovely introduction to the culture that's worth the time to visit!
