【Narita/Haneda Airport】WiFi Router Rental with Easy Pick-up and Return

Outstanding in every way!

Reviewed by: TokyoWedding2017

We rented a portable router for 2 weeks and couldn't believe how excellent the overall experience was. Easy to book and pay in advance, delivery to our hotel as promised, incredible strong router signal wherever we went, including subways, trains, elevators, etc. Our group had 10 devices on at one point and we couldn't believe how well it worked. Used skype instead of cell phones and left our cells on airplane mode throughout the trip. We dropped it off at Narita airport without a hitch when we flew home to Canada. Saw a lot of complaints in other reviews about problems with how long the battery lasted, but we didn't have any problems and only had to recharge it once during the day with our back up portable battery charger, after a very long day. Will definitely use this service wherever we can in the future! Wish they had it in Canada!!

The do it yourself SiM Card was Pretty good

Reviewed by: Kit

Seriously I will admit I had problems at first as I am NOT technically inclined and the directions were a bit convoluted. Granted, I was traveling all day and super exhausted. A bonus they delivered the SIM card to my hotel so it was waiting for me when I arrived, and I installed it over dinner. It took me about 20
Min but most people it should take 5-10. Once I figured it out it worked like I dream and I was taking selfies and using Google
Maps to get all over Tokyo. I'd definitely use this service again.

Pocket wifi

Reviewed by: Benzon kho

Sorry to say that I find it very difficult to pick up the item because of the language barrier. Secondly, the postal name was not included in in the voucher that's why I have to inquire every postal booth in the airport terminal. Anyway, the good thing was, I find it very useful, especially when I was left behind during our train trip, I was able to call my friend to guide me where to embark.

Pocket Wiifi

Reviewed by: Nic

Pick ups and returns are always confusing as I don't know which counter to go to (Global wifi? Ninja wifi? something else?), especially after the long flights or running late to get on board.
Other than that, pleasant and helpful people at the counter, connections are mostly good (sometimes you have to restart the router or it stops working), and affordable. It's a must traveling in Tokyo!

Just what we needed

Reviewed by: Inna

The router worked perfectly, with coverage dropped maybe twice during the week in Tokyo. You will absolutely need an external battery as it will not last all day, but we carried several for our phones anyway. I think that hoe much you will need to charge the device depends on how much you use it, but I do not know for sure. It was essential fir our ability to navigate Tokyo, check the weather, or use Google Translate to tell people things. For me, an opportunity to share pictures and video (including FB live) on the go was a great bonus. And of course, I could play Pokémon Go (not much, we were too busy looking at things), which got me some great catches in Tokyo.

Must be tech savvy

Reviewed by: Jasmine

My mother was visiting Japan from America so I had it sent to my house to see if this would be a better option than the usual portable wifi we use. It arrived safely and on time to my place. But once I got it and tried to set it in my mother's American phone, it did not work. It was an android that was unlocked, but it had a lot of other settings that was not written in the instructions. I'm not sure if that's why it did not work. Luckily, I had internet in my house, but for those who do not have internet in advance, it will be quite troublesome.
I couldn't figure it out so I messaged the provider who kindly replied to me in English quickly. But it still didn't work. In the very end, I tried it on my iphone and it worked then. It is best for you to try it with a more popular phone than a random android.
Make sure your phone is on the list of phones and know what you're doing with your phone.

RECEPTION/SIGNAL/SPEED RELIABILITY IN TOKYO & MT. FUJI:
During my stay in Tokyo and short trip to Mt. Fuji, I had stable, reliable reception the entire time. The reception in the subway were still stable, but not always reliable when the train is actually moving between stations. The signal bar on my phone also never shows any signal/reception when using this card, which I don't like because I can't tell how strong the signal is, but yes, I am still receiving full signal I believe. You don't need to see those bars anyways since you won't use it for Talk. The network it's on is called Docomo, which is advertised everywhere in Tokyo, so I assume it's a major network. Speed is above average.

DELIVERY AND PACKAGE:
I had it sent to my residence. It was faster than I expected, but it was still around 1-2 weeks time. I almost forgot about it until I saw it in the mail. lol. Best thing about this little package is that it comes neatly packaged with 3 sim card adapters so you don't have to worry about whether the sim card fits your phone. It also comes with a handy pin to open your sim card slot with (iphone user here).

BOOKMARK THIS (or copy/paste) & FOLLOW THESE TIPS:
1. Keep all contents of the mailed package in your carry-on so you can easily change sims at the airport once you get off the plane.
2. You will need to be physically in Japan AND have wifi to complete the activation process. The airport has free wifi (you will need this, so please STAY at the airport until sim card is activated).
3. Follow the instructions that come with it.
4. IMPORTANT: One of the instructions that doesn't exactly tell you word-for-word on the pamphlet that came with it is that you HAVE TO REGISTER your information ONLINE before you get activated. It's a requirement. You WILL NOT get any reception if you don't register. So, remember to REGISTER!!
5. Make sure you are getting signal by visiting any webpage with your new sim card.
6. You may now leave the airport. Have fun!

  • Speed test of sim card's network. Everything looks good.

  • Once you are REGISTERED ONLINE, you will see a screen like this to confirm. Notice that the signal bars next to "docomo" is blank - it will remain this way even though you do have reception...

Good signal throughout Tokyo except when you are in subway stations. Mailed to hotel and ready for use right after checked in. Save you lot of times finding direction if you are not fluent in Japanese. My party had 2 iphones signed into the mobile wifi. The power lasted around 6-8 hrs depending on usage. Easy return, just drop off at Haneda International Terminal on the 2nd Floor. Will definitely rent again if going to Japan in the near future.

Kansai SIM card experience

Reviewed by: 卡酪梨

While going to the Kansai region, I set the SIM card up after the plane took off. The first part is described in Japanese and has one extra step than the SIM cards from Taiwan. But I still managed to get it to work. (phew)

The SIM card worked smoothly, except underground on the subway. I saw Japanese people can use the internet while my friends and the SIM card could not be used. As for apps, photos on instagram load significantly slower than the SIM cards from Taiwan that my friends were using. Maybe because Kansai uses LTE more than 3G or 4G, but I am not sure. Google map and LINE work fine, but did not open facebook since I was unsure of the speed.

I had a lot of data left after using google maps along with Pokemon Go when I had time. It is enough to use just to surf websites and is a good option to use during low traffic.

Overall, using this SIM card was a good experience. Writing a review and getting a rebate is great!

Highly recommended. The pocket WiFi was delivered to our hotel in Shinjuku the day we arrived. It works great, very fast. Helps us go on Google map to navigate through all the streets of Tokyo and use Yelp to pick restaurants. It does drain the phone battery though, but we used it for 4 hours straight. Over all this is an extremely helpful device to have, especially for tourists. Very affordable. We got it for 7 days

【Narita/Haneda Airport】WiFi Router Rental with Easy Pick-up and Return

Service was good, but the WiFi dies so quickly...

Reviewed by: C.S.

My trip was scheduled at the very last minute for my business, and I requested this device right away. But it took a few days for them to process my request, and I had to go without it for the first 2.5 days. It finally arrived on my 3rd day of this trip in the afternoon.

The device worked well, but it dies so quickly. After it was fully charged, it can work about 4, 5 hours depending on how much you use it. I felt like that was too short. I own a pocket WiFi (hot spot) in the U.S., and that lasts all day. So I was really disappointed about it.

The return process at the airport was very simple and easy. I appreciate that because I had a lot stuff to carry with me.

I would say this plan was good overall because of the price. I paid about $60 for 10 days, and it was cheaper than other options I had.

This is the second time we used this rental service, & altho we encountered some hiccups on our 1st time, everyone was so gracious & helpful in trying to resolve the situation that we ordered again. Plus, it really is a good deal compared to other services. This time around, there were no problems except for some due to Japan's spotty wifi service & not this rental - you will encounter some areas that are difficult to get wifi, but this will likely happen with any mobile wifi. We will likely order this again on our next trip to Japan.

Best Customer Service and EASY, GREAT, FAST Wi-Fi!

Reviewed by: iHEARTtravel

VELTRA is arguably the best place to get a reliable and fast Pocket Wi-Fi in Tokyo. It was so easy!I had it delivered to my rented apartment, and we did have a missed delivery. However, VELTRA has excellent customer service, and redelivered it the next day with multiple communication emails in between. I was impressed. I can't praise them enough.

The Wi-Fi is LTE, works ALL over Japan (I took it with me to Osaka and Kobe for 3 days) battery life is great, so convenient, and the price for a two week rental CANNOT BE BEAT! It is such a great service, and wonderful to have in Japan. I can't tell you how many times I needed a reliable Wi-Fi connection to access maps, TripAdvisor, GuruNavi, and Google on my cell phone and tablet.

It is about the size of a small bar of soap, boots up fast, and the battery life lasts almost the entire day. It comes in a zippered pouch with charger and cable, and even some discount tourist coupons. You just match up the Wi-Fi name in your devices, and enter in the password and save. Your devices will automatically hook up to it every time it's on. EASY.

The price of rental was better than every other site I checked on the internet, and delivery was simple. The best part was returning the unit: You pack it in the included envelope and fill out the return address form, and walk to your nearest Lawson, 7-Eleven, or FamilyMart konbini, and give it to the clerk. (Your neighborhood convenience stores are used as Post Offices) They fill out some info on the return slip, stamp it, and send it back for you. SO EASY!!

Thank you VELTRA for the convenient, reliable Wi-Fi! I will definitely use VELTRA again the next time I'm in Tokyo. I highly recommend renting this Wi-Fi, I had such a great experience. VELTRA, You have just made a lifelong travel customer. Thank you!
