It really was exactly as protrayed in the documentary. Didn't stay for the handshake event though :)

We were keen to check out the show after seeing it profiled on Joanna Lumley's Japan. It definitely delivered on the quirk factor, with mostly middle aged men dressed in cosplay, from Alice in Wonderland to a fairy-winged bowling pin as much of a spectacle as the performers they came to see. The good vibes were infectious and I found myself starting to sing along to the catchy pop lyrics. Each song has its own actions which the audience diligently follow, waving their glow stick when their particular 'idol' sang a solo. It was too much sensory overload to stay for the whole show but we enjoyed the experience.

FIRST OFF
When my friend and I came down to view the show, we had some issues with people at the front desk & the people on the actual floor running the event, they didn't speak any english at all and us being foreigners didn't help but we were able to communicate through the blessed google translator app.
We had a miscommunication on whether or not our tickets were bought already, after 5 minutes of trying to understand each other we finally got in.
Once we got in the concert started right away and man the crowd is LIT AF. The idols performances were outstanding, the crowd knew the dance moves and danced their souls out with their favorite girls on stage, it really made you want to do the same, but we didn't know any of the dances so we just stood their and drank and enjoyed the show!
Afterwards the idols actually come down to the dance floor area where they introduce themselves and also do a Q&A section, we didn't stay for this because we barely knew any japanese.
Also the price point for these tickets are simply too cheap, you're literally paying for admission and like 3 alcoholic drinks or a few snacks. IT'S NUTS! mind you we bought for a weekday show & not the weekend one, so i believe the ticketing is different on weekends, but again, these tickets I feel are waaaay to cheap to even be sold for something so worth experiencing.
PROS
- great performances (aka cute girls on stage)
- j-pop genre
- food is alright (included with voucher)
- drinks (included with voucher)
- affordable experience at $15 - $20 a ticket (USD)
CONS
- no video or photo is allowed at ALL, being a vlogger and not being able to vlog is a total bummer.
- no outdoor drinks, they will search all your bags.
ADD THIS TO YOUR LIST OF THINGS TO DO IN AKIHABARA YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
PS. hit up a daiso & pick up some glow sticks, you'll understand what I mean when you go!

first of all I was impressed by Veltra trying to contact me when there was a time change in the concert. They emailed me, they called my cell phone and when those failed they called my hotel. Great communication.
The Alice Project concert/show was really good and full of energy. The crowd was part of the show as they participated in every song. the girls sang and danced well and seemed to be having fun. We do not having anything like this in the USA so I would recommend it to any visitor to experience Akiba craziness.
The only bad part was no pictures were allowed. Those would be nice to share with folks back home or to even post here.

Hard to find. The food was not great and looked better in the pictures. I felt like I had brought my daughter into a boys club. The girls sang, bad karaoke and we left pretty quickly. Not a place I would recommend. Not a place for a mother ad daughter.

If you read a lot of manga or watch a lot of anime, you're bound to have run into a Shinto shrine and/or miko or two. It's very difficult to find an experience like this as most shrines limit participation to native Japanese. The priest at this shrine is very progressive.
I was lucky to have an English-speaking miko (I'll leave her name out for privacy) present for my experience, so I was able to ask more questions than I would have with my poor Japanese. Both the head priest and the miko-san were very attentive and eager to share the Shinto religion.
We spent about half an hour getting dressed--the robes are complicated, especially if you've never worn a hakama before (if you practice kendo or aikido, it's the same hakama). We then spent about 45 min. practicing the ritual movements and walking like a miko and then we spent about 15 min. performing the actual ritual. We spent another half hour on "question and answer" time, and they even let me hold the kagura suzu (ritual bells seen in the movie Kimi No Na Wa). The priest gave me some blessed rice kernels as a gift.
By the way, the map location is inaccurate--it shows the shrine as being across the road from the vintage store JAMS. It's actually a block or two past on that main street. When you exit the station, you'll see a McDonald's in front of you. Go straight down that road. Instead of turning left to get to JAMS, You'll keep going straight and pass a hospital and then a baseball field/park on your left. At the end of the baseball field, turn left, and then turn left again when you see a children's playground at the end of the baseball field. The shrine is almost directly opposite the children's playground. As the previous shrine burned down, it's now in a modern building, so don't look for tori gates, statutes, or anything. However, the priest told me they're rebuilding in about a year--I'm hoping to return once they do!

This is an amazing evening and really good value. It is not only an insight in to the life of the Japanese male Idol fan but an amazing evening of listening and watching a very talented band of girl singers. The backing music is really cool, rocky and even heavy metal in parts and the girls sing along and perform flawless with such energy. I went with my wife and 19 year old daughter and we all had a great evening with drinks included in price which makes it quite a bargain.
Would recommend this evening to anyone interested in the idol culture in Tokyo

I would definitely recommend this show. And who said Tokyo is expensive? Impossible to find so much fun for so little yen anywhere. Unfortunately no photography allowed during the concert, but a photo could not capture the true atmosphere anyway.

I am very thankful that VELTRA connected me to this Idol show, which I never would have found otherwise! The performers were excellent and the concierge at the entertainment center knew exactly what the VELTRA voucher was. The one thing I would recommend - do some research beforehand, especially if you are going alone. Everyone in the crowd knew a dance routine associated with the performance and changed their glow sticks to specific colors at specific times. I wish I had watched some YouTube videos beforehand because I would have had more fun participating! If you didn't, like me, your voucher covers 2 alcoholic drinks to make you feel a little less like you don't know what you are doing! :D

This is a smaller version of the Idol worship that exist in Japan. They are known as the "underground" idols and the venue is perfect for that! 5-6 girls come out at a time and dans and lipsync and then at a point everyone sits down on the floor to listen to their chit chat. Then next girls comes out.
Great to see the show (all Japanese songs and dancing), but more the experience with the audience! They are part of the show and they know their own chorography very well!
There is alcohol at the venue to make this surreal experience even more fun!

This is an excellent way to see Japanese girl pop acts. The entertainment is energetic and continuous. You get to see several acts over the course of the show, with little to no wait time between performances.
I chose to go to the afternoon show and it was not very crowded. The audience was made up primarily of men, most of whom appeared to be dropping in for some entertainment after work, seeing as many were in business suits. The crowd was very enthusiastic.
The performance is in a normal sized auditorium in a multi-purpose building. There were tables with chairs (where I sat) at the back and a standing/dancing area in front of the stage. There is a bar on the side, and your ticket includes vouchers for a few drinks.
The venue is not hard to find in the Akihabara neighbourhood. The staff are very polite and welcoming. It is a fun show and for the price, it's a must see for anybody travelling in Japan who enjoys J-Pop music and Akihabara's culture.

This was an interesting and fun experience, and gave us an opportunity to see a part of Japanese culture we wouldn't have seen in another way. The concert featured three performance groups, one after the other, each in a slightly different style. Perhaps the most interesting part though was seeing the fans who had come to support the different idols. They had brought their colored handheld sticks and were cheering along with the songs.
Please note there is a lot of standing--we had spent all day walking so our feet were quite sore at the point the concert started. They were going to be doing a new song the night we were there, so there were quite a few people and the concert went almost 3 hours, all standing. It was worth it in the end, but we would have taken the rest of the day more easy had we known.

Just before the show, we made reservations and were able to go. Since we made the reservation during our trip, the hotel let us print our voucher from their fax machine. That was a little bit difficult.
We like idol groups and so we were really looking forward to it.
The amount of people having the buffet was small, so everyone just ended up ordering instead. However, one of the people there said that if you get the buffet plan, you can see the idols going back and forth during the intermission and say hello to them.
Next time I think we'll get the buffet plan!

This was my first experience at an Akihabara idol theatre. It was a much friendlier and fun place than I had imagined.
All of the girls were cute and worked very hard. Even though they might feel tired of performing every day, they really gave their all singing and dancing. When I saw their enthusiasm, I smiled and applauded them.
About the fans. Even though I thought that Akihabara would be full of wota fans doing their crazy enthusiastic wotagei dances, the atmosphere was actually very calm. The fans all seemed to be kind to one another, for example bringing fellow fans who were shy to the front. Everyone had a great time together so I was surprised! Depending on the song, the fans would all face the stage or the center of the concert hall together, moving as one. They weren't pushing each other to reach the front of the stage at all, and instead really enjoyed the show together. It was a great, stress-free atmosphere.
As for me, I thought the purple girl from the "Armor Girls" was cute. I'm looking forward to the group's future activities since I think they could go on to perform in places like Zepp or Saitama Super Arena!

4-5 trendy idol groups were there singing a couple of their original songs and dancing vigorously.
As I thought, “They are real idols, how cute!” people around us were dancing and singing. Their force, quality, dedication, and seriousness met those of the idols.
As a beginner, I felt confused, so I would like to share some rules you should know before going to an idol festival for the first time.
1. Stand up when your idol introduces herself
Seems there is a rule that when a idol introduces herself, the idol will raise her right hand and say 'Hi! I am XXX'. At that time, stand up and call her name
2. Be seated on the floor after the set ends
Idols will introduce themselves during that time.
3. If you want to take a photograph or get a signature, bring your own pen and camera.
After the festival(live show), participants will have some time to talk with the idols. You can also vote for your idol by putting a coin in the idol's ballot box which costs 1500 yen per vote.
W
hen the festival ends, maybe you might naturally want to support these idols? It was a precious experience, one you will never forget. It's recommendable not only for boys, but also for girls♪

It was amazing, I had never seen anything similar, it is much more energetic and 'real' than AKB48. We saw 4 groups, including the popular Alice Juban and the Armor Girls. The idols were super cute (although I don'T know what they were saying) and so energetic. The fans are really into it too, although they were so polite! They took turns cheering the girls, and would sit on the ground when they talked!

Although I can imagine the experience varies depending on your driver, ours made the day extremely easy and once he was used to the idea of two very informal aussies he was also excellent company. Great cars and our driver helped with our lack of Japanese. We visited Akihabra, Nanko Broadway and Odaiba; while Odaiba itself offered little that a western shopping mall does not, the spectacle of the giant robot was worth it even for someone who is not a gundam fan. Akihabra offered far more than we could have possibly seen in half a day (we ended up returning later for another visit). Whilst Nanko Broadway may have less appeal to the sightseer, it did offer a much more exciting shopping experience. Would recommend this trip to anyone and especially to a nerd with shopping on the agenda.
Dear Mrs. Marie
Thank you very much for your nice comments. We are all very pleased to read this. The driver did also have much fun attending your day tour. If you have any chance to revisit Japan, we are looking forward to serving your trip again.
