History of the USS Constitution: Nicknamed "Old Ironsides," the USS Constitution is the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat and is now a museum and the centerpiece of the Charlestown Navy Yard, a part of the Boston National Historical Park. First deployed in 1797, this ship once carried over 450 sailors and marines during the War of 1812 and the American Civil War until it was retired from active service in 1881 and then designated as a museum ship in 1907.

Facts About the USS Constitution: The main mast is 172 feet in height and the overall length of the vessel is 305 feet. In 1812, 48 sails equaling over one acre of canvas would be used while under sail and she chould reach speeds of up to 15 miles (24km) per hour.
